It is with great pleasure that we welcome Tom Rutledge as our judge this year.
Tom has been an illustrator for over 40 years creating illustrations for books, magazines, newspapers, advertising agencies and for both national and international companies. He has also had his work in many painting exhibitions in which he received numerous awards, and he has been invited by a number of galleries to have solo exhibitions of his paintings. Tom
has done numerous watercolor, gouache, acrylic, oil, pen and ink, and drawing (including silver point) demonstrations. He has taught classes for many organizations including drawing classes for Rutgers University. Tom also gives critiques and lectures on art, and he has received a lifetime achievement award from the Ocean County Cultural and Heritage Commission in 2019.
Tom is a decorated disabled ex-combat veteran of the Vietnam War where he was wounded in action and lost use of both hands but through a few years of therapy he regained their use. He was then asked by the head of therapy at the military hospital he was in to illustrate the most comprehensive book on Occupational Therapy at that time which he did.
